March 1st is the effective date for coding changes in CB 21. This means that from today, the new TOP codes must be submitted with any data related to all Basic Skills courses and all ESL or they will be marked as an error code. Beginning on March 1st allows your college time to change all these codes in your local system and transmit the information via the Master Course file. These changes must be reported for all spring term data. This allows time for the data to be uploaded. Corrections and changes will be accepted, as always. Until these changes are made any submitted spring term data will be rejected as error codes, however, final submission of your spring term data occurs after the spring term ends. This timeline allows changes and questions to be considered at your caolleges prior to affecting any reporting or funding allocations.

Regional Meetings: Background

The purpose of the Basic Skills Initiative Regional Meetings is to provide training for faculty, staff and administrators on all California Community Colleges in the area of developmental education. This training will provide materials based on current research conducted by the Center for Student Success, through a Chancellor’s Office grant to Mt. San Antonio College, including a self-assessment tool to help colleges identify their strengths and weaknesses. These resources will assist colleges in their self-assessment process, evaluation, and selection of implementation strategies for local program improvement. It is anticipated that regional meetings will give campuses a chance to learn from each others' experiences and teams at the campus can ensure that everyone participates in local planning. It is expected that faculty, staff, and administrators who attend the grant-sponsored training will share information with others on their campuses regarding the analysis and planning processes.
